A 10 month-old child sleeping in the same bed as the parents has died.
The death was determined possiblyto be caused by positional asphyxia, possibly due to a parent rolling over or on the child.
Pearl River County Sheriff’s deputies received the call Saturday at 11 a.m. that the 10 month-old child was unresponsive. Emergency personnel responded to the home at 321 Anchor Lake Rd., Carriere, said Chief Deputy Shane Tucker.
The child was apparently sleeping in the same bed as the parents the night before. The parents are identified as 27 year-old Mary Palmer and 28 year-old Jeremy Miller. Both parents reside at the Anchor Lake Road home, Tucker said.
A preliminary autopsy was conducted on the child in Jackson. That autopsy found the cause of death to be possible accidental asphyxiation. A final report will not be available for months, Tucker said.
Apparently, the incident involved the child sleeping in the bed with the parents. There is the possibility that one of the parents could have rolled over or on the child during the night. Investigators with the department are still looking into the incident, Tucker said.
