Jackson Police have arrested a suspect in a weekend slaying.

Police say 22-year-old Billy Lightner allegedly fired the shot that killed 26-year-old Christopher Smith in downtown Jackson early Sunday. Smith’s body was found in a parking lot.

Police say they do not know why Smith, of Jackson, was in the area or what the motive for the shooting may have been.

Lightner was arrested and booked with murder, simple assault and possession of marijuana. He is being held at the Hinds County Detention Center. Bond has not been set.
