Residents in south Mississippi are being warned to beware of post-hurricane scams by those promising to remove storm debris or repair damage left by Hurricane Gustav.

Natchez Police Chief Mike Mullins says before paying anyone to remove storm debris or repair damage to their homes, residents should ask to see a business permit. And if one can’t be provided, Mullins says, it is quite possible the business is not legitimate.

Mullins says a legitimate business should also be able to provide references to potential customers.
