Melton hires Jackson law firm

Mayor Frank Melton has hired the law firm of a former Republican state legislator to represent him in his federal trial.
A one-page motion filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court says the law offices of John Reeves of Jackson will represent Melton in court on November 12.
Melton and his two former bodyguards, Jackson police Detectives Marcus Wright and Michael Recio, were indicted in July by a federal grand jury on charges related to the damage of a duplex. The duplex was damaged by the mayor’s entourage on Aug. 26, 2006, during a police-style raid.
Melton has struggled to find a lawyer, mainly, he said, because he’s concerned about the cost of representation.
