Picayune opened division play with a big win on the road over Forrest County AHS Thursday.
Now the Lady Tide as well as Poplarville face a big week of league play culminating in a meeting between the two squads on Thursday in Poplarville.
Poplarville also stands 1-0 in the division after winning its league opener over South Jones on the road last week.
Both squads return to division play tonight, and both are at home as Poplarville hosts Forrest County AHS and Picayune hosts South Jones.
Picayune stands an impressive 11-2 on the season after the win over the Lady Aggies.
Mallorie Mixon, Tiffany Reed and Brooke Meitzler each had three hits apiece for the Lady Tide in the win, with Mixon getting a triple and a two run double in that count.
Meitzler also drove in two runs, while Sarah Dodd not only picked up the pitching win but she smacked a three run double as well while Millie Gill, Brandi Rabion and Taylor Seals also drove in runs in the winning effort.
The Lady Tide was slated to play Ocean Springs on Saturday, but the game was called off.
Poplarville, the two time defending division champion, stands 7-2 on a season in which the Lady Hornets have had as many as six games cancelled due to inclement weather.
The stretch run of league games continues for both Poplarville and Picayune next week, as the Lady Tide and Lady Hornets both play South Jones and Forrest County again.
Picayune then hosts Poplarville on Sept. 30th to end league play for both teams.
The top two teams in the final regular season standings qualify for the Class 4A South State playoffs.
