Each winner will receive a copy of the 2008 Anthology of Local Writers and a certificate of merit. The Anthology, will be published in October, and will feature Brig. Gen. John Hawkins Napier III who wrote Lower Pearl River’s Piney Woods, Its Land and People, a concise history of the area, as well as many historical articles published in the Picayune Item.

The Picayune Writers’ Group now meets at the Centraplex (Old Mississippi Mall) on Memorial Blvd. (Hwy 43 S.) across from the Mexican Restaurant, on Tuesday evenings at 6 p.m., except for the first Tuesday of the month where they hold their Open Mike at PJ’s coffee house.
