FEMA grant to be used for 4 shelters on Miss. coast

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is providing nearly $11 million for four new evacuation shelters in Hancock County.

FEMA says the Leetown and Necaise communities will build two shelters with nearly 3,700 square feet each.

The Kiln and Dedeaux communities will build two shelters with 10,650 square feet each.

Officials say each shelter will be built to current FEMA standards.

Those in Leetown and Necaise can hold about 570 people for up to 36 hours. The larger shelters can hold about 1,800 people for up to 36 hours.
