Picayune tyke Cameron Guidry has qualified for the USKids World Championship for ages 6 and under.
The five year old will compete at historic Pinehurst in North Carolina later this month, after winning the Southern Regional qualifier at Cypress Lake Golf Course in Muscle Shoals, Ala., several weeks ago.
Guidry shot a 41 for the nine hole event to qualify, and will now have to play three straight days of nine hole format competition for the world event. “I’m having fun, and I am going there to win,” the charismatic youngster said at Millbrook Country Club on Wednesday. “My daddy taught me everything I know. I think I will win because I believe I can.”
To help his family offset the cost of the trip to the Tarheel State, Millbrook is hosting a Friends of Cam Golf Tournament on Saturday, July 19th, at 2:30 in the afternoon.
Cost for the four man scramble is $50 per person, and the event is open to the public. Also, sponsorships for holes are being sought as well and any donations for those not wanting to play golf are being accepted as well for the trip. The young golfer is also in line to capture the player of the year for the Summer Season for the USKids regional title as well, as he has won first place in all three of the tournaments he has played in so far over the past six weeks.
