Authorities are working to determine what caused the derailment of a freight train about eight miles north of Flora in Madison County.

Canadian National Railway spokesman Patrick Waldron says 41 cars of the 90-car train derailed about 10:50 p.m. Sunday.

Butch Hammack, Madison County emergency operations director, says there were no injuries, and nothing leaked from the cars.

Waldron says the freight train was traveling from Geismar, Louisiana, to Champagne, Illinois.

Waldron says CN crews were working Monday to clean up the tracks. He had no estimate of how long the cleanup would take.
