Purvis hires new police chief

Police Captain Steve Reid has been promoted to police chief in Purvis.
The 49-year-old Reid succeeds Chief John Howard.
The 60-year-old Howard had been chief since June 2007 when he retired from the Mississippi Highway Patrol. Howard resigned Monday for personal reasons.
Reid has been with the Purvis Police Department for three years.
