Poplarville Police Department interrupts drug transaction

Poplarville Police officers interrupted a drug transaction and found ecstasy, marijuana, methamphetamine and cocaine.

The incident took place Saturday at about 12:51 a.m. as officers observed what they believed to be a drug transaction taking place in the parking lot of the Kangaroo Quick Stop on the corner of Mississippi Highway 26 and Mississippi Highway 53, according to a press release from the department.

Three Poplarville residents, Raymond Wesley Fairchild, Ryan Jarrell Graham and Elizabeth Riley Nowell, were taken into custody when the officers found the contraband, the release states.

As the officers investigated, it turned out they interrupted a drug transaction between two male subjects and a female subject. Evidence believed to be marijuana, ecstasy, methamphetamine, and powder cocaine was seized along with a 1998 Saturn 4-door passenger car.

All three suspects were arrested, identified and charged, according to the release.

Fairchild, 25, of 884 Sones Chapel Rd., Poplarville, was charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute within 1,500 feet of a church.

Graham, 24, of 159 E.T. Poole Rd., Poplarville, was charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute within 1,500 feet of a church.

Nowell, 41, of 905 South Shivers St., Poplarville, was charged with one count of possession of a controlled substance.

The three suspects appeared before Municipal Court Judge James Hal Breland on Sunday for a hearing to determine probable cause and set their bonds. All suspects had their bond set at $30,000 per count, the release states.
