Picayune Police arrest nine for DUI over weekend

Fourth of July weekend was a busy time for the Picayune Police Department with intoxicated drivers.

Beginning Thursday evening and ending early Monday morning, the department charged nine people with driving under the influence.

The first was James Cutshaw, 42, 311 Oak St. He was pulled over July 3, on the 300 block of Oak Street and charged with DUI, no tag light, driving with a suspended license and open beer. That same day, Charles Colton Jr., 46, 144 Holcomb Carroll Rd., Carriere was pulled over on Memorial Boulevard near U.S. 11. Colton was charged with DUI, open beer, possession of bonded whiskey, expired tag and careless driving.

On Friday, two more suspects were charged with DUI. Daniel Wayne Glover, 34, of 267 Magnolia Dr. was stopped on Mississippi 43 North near Keith’s Chevron. He was charged with DUI, possession of bonded whiskey, and no tag light. His passenger, Sandra Rae Brown, 22, of 380 North Blvd. was charged with possession of bonded whiskey. In a separate incident, Brian King, 23, of 366 Joe Smith Rd., McNeill was stopped on U.S. 11 North Near Miss. 43 N. and charged with DUI, careless driving, no insurance and driving while license suspended.

On Saturday on Nixon Street near South Beech Street, Alton Jefferson, 54, of 107 Weems St., was stopped and charged with DUI. That same day in a separate incident, Brenda Holden, 49, of 801 Charlotte Dr. was stopped on Memorial Boulevard near South Blanks Avenue. She was charged with DUI, careless driving and emitting a white light.

On Sunday, officers pulled over Chester J. Gasper, 40, of 63 Matthew Rd., Carriere, at the intersection of Miss. 43 North and Cooper Road. He was charged with DUI and no tag light. Also on Sunday, Lee Wesley Jones, 62, of 501 E. Third St. was pulled over at the intersection of East Canal Street and Blanks Avenue where he was charged with DUI, improper lane change and no insurance.

Early Monday morning, Corey James Reed, 18, of 131 Grace Dr., was stopped at the intersection of U.S. 11 North near Sixth Street. He was charged with DUI, one headlight and possession of a controlled substance. Reed had two passengers with him at the time, Robert Shelby Hamilton, 18, of 104 Jenkins St. and Kacie Dellinges, 19, of 361 Pinegrove Rd., both of whom both charged with possession of a controlled substance.

“Our officers are out there looking for DUI and we have a zero tolerance when it come s to DUIs,” said Traffic Division Supervisor Lt. Chad Dorn.
