The Department of Corrections has received a $1.3 million grant to establish Mississippi’s first statewide, automated notification system for crime victims.

State Corrections Commissioner Chris Epps said Wednesday that the system will notify victims of state and county jail offenders when the offender has been released, transferred or escapes.

Epps says MDOC received funding from the Bureau of Justice Assistance.
