FEMA’s Mississippi Transitional Recovery Office has begun an initiative to teach children about disaster preparedness.
The FEMA in the Classroom program targets elementary-age students. It uses various projects and other activities to show youngsters how to create a family disaster kit, draft a family communications plan and protect their pets.
FEMA representatives visited some coast schools this past week.
FEMA spokeswoman Kiiva Williams said representatives hope to reach as many schools as possible in Harrison, Hancock and Jackson counties.
