The community of Diamondhead in Hancock County has filed a petition incorporate.

Diamondhead resident Chuck Ingraham says the petition filed with the chancery clerk had the names of 3,500 to 3,600 registered voters in support of incorporation.

Officials say a hearing in chancery court will be set sometime within the next four months.

If approved, Ingraham says Diamondhead would operate under a city manager form of government, with a mayor and five council members.
