Coast Electric accepting compact fluorescents for recycling

Coast Electric Power Assoc. is accepting compact fluorescent bulbs for recycling at its Picayune and Poplarville locations in Pearl River County and in Bay St. Louis, Gulfport and Biloxi on the Gulf Coast, according to a press release from Coast Electric.

The bulbs contain small amounts of mercury and should be recycled to prevent the mercury from entering the environment.

Compact fluorescents help reduce energy costs significantly below what it costs to burn an incandescent bulb, the release says. The fluorescents cost more initially but last much longer and use significantly less electricity, the release says. The association estimates that replacing even one incandescent bulb with a compact fluorescent will save bill payers $15 a year.
