PRCC will host hoops camp

The 2008 Wildcat Basketball Day Camp is set for July 28-31 here on the Pearl River Community College campus, says head coach Richard Mathis.

Cost for the three-day camp is $90 for the full day (9 a.m. until 3 p.m.) or $65 for the half day (9 a.m. until 12 noon). All participants will receive a camp tee-shirt.

Campers should bring athletic shorts and a tee-shirt, basketball shoes, a water bottle or drink, and lunch.

The camp is for youths ages 6-16 years and will emphasize individual fundamentals needed to become a better basketball palyer. Campers will develop their skills in all facets of the game, including ball handling, shooting, passing, defense, and more.

In addition, the camp will feature all kinds of contests with games and skill worth awards presented for each age division.

Mathis and assistant coach Trevor Lydic will direct the camp, while PRCC assistant coach Jason Francis will assist along with many current and former Wildcat players.

Registration will begin on July 28 at 8:30 a.m. in Shivers Gymnasium.

• Also, Pearl River Community College basketball standout LeBaron Weathers has signed on with head coach Van Holt’s Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions. Weathers, a 6-foot-9, 230-pound center who prepped at Oak Grove High School, averaged 8.9 points and 5.6 rebounds a game for head coach Richard Mathis’ Wildcats this past season
