A 22-year-old Meridian man has surrendered to the Lauderdale County Sheriff’s Department to face felony charges in both Mississippi and Georgia.
The sheriff’s department said Frederick M. Watts was taken into custody Tuesday afternoon by deputies.
Watts is wanted in Fulton County, Ga., on charges ranging from aggravated assault to armed robbery, Lauderdale County Chief Deputy Ward Calhoun said.
He also is wanted in Lauderdale County for felony fleeing and numerous traffic violations stemming from the June 1 car chase in which Watts allegedly abandoned his car and fled from officers on foot.
Calhoun said Watts fled when he was stopped at a safety checkpoint and asked for his driver’s license.
Deputies said Watts was in the county jail Wednesday but was expected to be extradited to Georgia in the next few of days to face the charges there.
