Itta Bena officials are tracking down people who haven’t paid court fines, some of which date back 30 years.
Police Chief Marvin Flowers and Municipal Court Clerk Clara Evans have set a July 10 deadline for people to pay off old fines for city ordinance violations. After that, warrants will be issued and debtors will be jailed.
Evans says fines of up to $300 must be paid in full. More than that, and a payment plan can be arranged.
Evans says she has seen delinquent fines dating back to 1979. She’s starting out by trying to collect on cases from the past two years.
