Former Pearl River County resident fails to show for arraignment

Michael Hudson Burks, a former Pearl River County resident suspected of murder, failed to show up for his arraignment in Hancock County Circuit Court.
The incident that lead to the hearing involved the shooting death of Gary Clifford Joiner, 42. The shooting took place at about 8:46 p.m. July 18, 2007, involving a shotgun. Bay St. Louis Police were sent to the area of 4260 N. Nassau St.. When officers arrived on scene they found Joiner dead from a single gunshot wound to the head, according to a story in the Sea Coast Echo.
Burks, then 63, was charged with the murder of Joiner and his bond was set at $20,000. On Monday, Burks was scheduled to make an appearance at the Hancock County Circuit Clerk’s office, according to records at that office. Burks did not appeared at the hearing, circuit clerk personnel report.
Pearl River County voter registration records show that Burks was a former resident of the county. He was removed from county voter registration rolls in 2005 after he failed to vote in the two previous federal elections.
