Picayune’s annual clean-up event to rid the city of litter is scheduled for Saturday and the city is requesting that community members come out and clean up their neighborhoods.
The event will begin at 9 a.m. at Picayune’s City Hall where garbage bags will be handed out, said Superintendent of Grounds and Beautification Daryl Smith.
County trustee work crews will assist in the clean up that is aimed to get community members to clean up their respective areas, Smith said.
Coastal Waste Services will be placing dumpsters at the following locations; Fire Station #1 on Adcox Road, the parks on Rosa Street, East Canal Street and Neal Road, the lift station on Charlotte Drive and in the median of Martin Luther King Boulevard, Smith said.
Residents can also take their filled bags to city dump trailers that will be placed across from Fire Station #2 on Mitchell Street, Cooper Road, City Hall and Telly Road, Smith said.
Old tires will be accepted at the city barn where city personnel will handle them, Smith said. White waste, which includes old appliances, will not be accepted.
Questions about the event can be directed to Peggy at 601-799-0602. Elderly community members who may need help getting rid of already collected trash can call the same number and request that someone come out to pick up the bags, Smith said. City personnel will do their best to pick up trash from those residents, Smith said.
