A federal judge has sentenced a Gulfport woman to 10 months in prison for fraudulently obtaining $29,327 in Hurricane Katrina relief aid.
Sarah J. Diab pleaded guilty in February to theft of government funds by filing for disaster relief benefits with the Federal Emergency Management Agency on a former address in Waveland, which she claimed as her primary residence.
Diab was also ordered to pay back the stolen funds as well as $435 to the Department of Agriculture. Following her prison term Diab will serve three years of supervised release.
Diab was sentenced Wednesday by U.S. District Judge Sul Ozerden in Gulfport.
