The Federal Emergency Management Agency is approving more than $1 million in disaster aid for residents in four Mississippi counties who suffered damage due to violent storms.
A FEMA statement Saturday said 172 applicants in Bolivar, Warren, Washington and Wilkinson counties were getting the aid, covering damage caused by severe storms and flooding which began March 20.
The statement says $873,410 was approved for housing assistance and $133,031 for other disaster-related needs. As of May 22, rental assistance has been approved for 124 applicants.
FEMA says residents who sustained damage during the March 20 through May 19 severe weather period and who have not yet applied for assistance are urged to do so immediately.
FEMA cautions storm victims not to disqualify themselves because they have insurance.
