Officials say at least one person was injured and several homes were damaged Friday when severe weather hit central Mississippi.

Hinds County Emergency Management Director Larry Fisher said a house was destroyed Friday afternoon in a rural area near Byram in what he believes was a tornado.

However, the one injury attributed to the severe weather was in the Louisville area. Officials said they had no details about the injury.

Latrica Maxie, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Jackson, said a tornado likely touched down near Terry or Byram and caused some damages.

“These were isolated storms that became severe and produced varying degrees of wind damage and there were possible tornadoes,” she said.

Fisher said several houses were damaged and at least one traffic light was out in Jackson, which is still recovering from severe weather and tornadoes that hit April 4.
