A man who was hit by a train is reported to have survived according to the last statement made to police.

The incident took place Sunday at 9:26 p.m. near St. Paul’s Lutheran Church on U.S. 11. Apparently a man was walking on the rail road tracks when he was hit by a train, said Capt. Theresa Milar Picayune Police Department Public information officer.

When officers arrived on scene they found Christopher Hill, 25, of 3500 Serena Circle, Chuncula, Ala., laying on the side of U.S. 11. Hill told the officers that he was walking south along the tracks when a north bound train struck him.

The conductor of the train told officers that he saw a man walking along the tracks who waved at the train before he was struck. After the conductor stopped the train he saw the Hill walk into the wooded area towards U.S. 11.

Hill was transported to Forrest General Hospital where he was last reported to have survived his injuries, Milar said.

The incident is still under investigation.
