On Thursday an allegedly inebriated man identified as Jason Allen Treat attempted to enter an unmarked police car with an undercover officer inside conducting surveillance.
The man eventually gained entrance to a police car, after he was arrested for public drunk and on a number of other charges.
At about 11:07 that night in the Picayune American Legion parking lot, an undercover officer was conducting surveillance in an unmarked car. As the officer was conducting his duties, he observed a man exit the building and walk up to his patrol car. The man then attempted to enter the unmarked car on the passenger side, said Picayune Police Chief Jim Luke. After apparently discovering the door was locked the suspect continued to jiggle the door handle to gain entry, Luke said.
The undercover officer stepped out of his vehicle, identified himself as a police officer and saw a beer in the suspect’s hand. The suspect yelled at the officer and then tried to flee, Luke said.
After a brief scuffle, the suspect was taken into custody and identified as Treat, 35, of 310 Vaughn St. He was charged with public drunk, open beer, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest by fleeing, the report states.
The report states Treat was driving a black Ford pickup truck that day.
