Arthur Wayne White

Mr. Arthur Wayne White, 64, of St. Martin, passed away peacefully at his home Friday, February 29, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Known as “Wayne” to his friends and family, he was born September 27, 1943, and was a native of Picayune. He was a graduate of Picayune Memorial High School and Pearl River Junior College. He was retired from Ingalls Shipbuilding after 32 years of loyal service. He was a member of Big Ridge Baptist Church in D’Iberville, Miss., where he taught Sunday School, served as a deacon, sang in the choir, and was a member of the singing group, “The Big Ridge Boys”.

Mr. White was preceded in death by his parents, Jack Merker White and Helen Simmons White Douglas.

He is survived by: his wife of almost 40 years, Virginia Ann Williams White; a son, Douglas Wayne White; a daughter, Carrie Ann White Shields; two grandchildren, Kyle White, 17, and Griffin Shields, 6; and a sister, Jackie W. Worthy.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to The Music Ministry of Big Ridge Baptist Church, 3230 Big Ridge Road, D’iberville, MS 39532, or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Attn: Memorial /Honor Program FH, One St. Jude Place Building, Memphis, TN 38148-0552.

Funeral services will be held Monday, March 3, 2008, at 7 p.m. with a visitaiton from 5 p.m. until service time at Bradford-O’Keefe Funeral Home in Ocean Springs, Miss. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at New Palestine Cemetery in Picayune.
