Rumors of a major event taking place at the Picayune Wal-Mart were greatly exaggerated with the incident turning out to be only a civil disturbance.

Picayune Public Information Officer Capt. Theresa Milar said that at about 1:07 p.m. Thursday a call came into the department concerning an armed robbery at the local retailer.

Upon arrival officers found the complainant who informed him that he had obtained a ride from Slidell, La., to Laurel from another individual for the price of $100. However, when they arrived in Picayune the suspect left the complainant at the Picayune Wal-Mart, making off with the money.

Milar said the call was then changed from an armed robbery to a civil disturbance, which the complainant would have to settle in civil court.
