Leo Lucas Laurent turned himself in on a bench warrant for embezzlement Wednesday.

The bench warrant was issued by Pearl River County Circuit Court Judge Prentiss Harrell on Dec. 20, when Laurent failed to appear before the court on the charge of embezzlement. The charge stemmed from an incident that apparently took place in Picayune.

Pearl River County Sheriff’s Department Chief Deputy Julie Flowers said Laurent turned himself in to the department Wednesday and was in their custody.

Laurent was the husband of Brandi Laurent who, after being reported as missing on Aug. 3, was found in a shallow grave on Nov. 7, less than a mile from where the couple used to reside. Hancock County Sheriff’s investigators are working the case as a murder, but have pressed no charges at this time.

Laurent was reported to have been in Florida when Panama City Beach Police attempted to serve the warrant, but he could not be found.
