Jackson County authorities are investigating the death of a 37-year-old inmate in the county jail.
Sheriff Mike Byrd said inmates alerted jailers about 4:20 a.m. Monday after they reportedly saw inmate Artis Baker suffering from some type of seizures.
Byrd said deputies performed CPR until paramedics arrived and took Baker to Singing River Hospital, where he died.
Baker had been in jail since Friday. He was arrested on a charge of possession with the intent to sell crack cocaine.
Byrd said foul play is not suspected. An autopsy has been ordered.
