Company agrees to reduce hazardous emissions

Officials say Georgia Gulf Chemicals and Vinyls LLC has agreed reduce hazardous emissions from its plant in Mississippi.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Mississippi Commission on Environmental Quality made the announcement Monday.

A news release from the agencies said Georgia Gulf has agreed to make changes to prevent up to 12,000 pounds of vinyl chloride annually from entering an unlined surface impoundment at the plant in Aberdeen

Georgia Gulf will also pay a $610,000 penalty as part of a settlement agreement.
