Natchez police are investigating the death of a worker who fell three stories while unloading furniture at the site of a new hotel.

Natchez Police Chief Mike Mullins said Chris Skinner, in his 30s, died in the fall. Mullins said another worker, Aaron Abundiz, 25, was injured but not seriously.

Mullins said witnesses told investigators that Skinner and Abundiz were standing on a pallet that was resting on the blades of a forklift when the pallet apparently tilted and they fell.

Abundiz’s father, Jose Abundiz, and Eric Smith were inside the hotel receiving the furniture.

Jose Abundiz told The Natchez Democrat that while his son was unconscious for a short time he quickly regained consciousness and appeared to have only a broken leg.
