The Madison County town of Flora has adopted a smoke-free ordinance that will take effect in December, Mayor Scott Greaves said Thursday.
The mayor and board of aldermen approved the ordinance this week. Of five aldermen, three voted for the ordinance and two abstained.
Greaves said the ban will include restaurants, bars and all other public places.
The ordinance will go into effect 30 days from the time the town notifies the public, by way of newspaper publication, of the board’s decision. The town plans to publish the notification soon, Greaves said.
Other smoke-free cities include Starkville, Ridgeland, Oxford, Hattiesburg, Tupelo and six others.
