State Rep. John Reeves filed a petition Monday challenging his defeat in the House District 71 race, which includes parts of Hinds and Rankin counties.

Reeves, a Republican, lost the Nov. 6 general election to Democratic challenger Adrienne Wooten.

Reeves is asking for a new election in four precincts where he says he may have lost votes because of poll worker errors.

Wooten received 1,524 votes to Reeves’ 1,303.

Reeves has served in the state House of Representatives since 1984.
