A head on collision on Mississippi 43 South in Hancock County killed both drivers and injured one passenger while a separate accident killed another driver.

The first accident occurred at about 11:42 p.m. Saturday when an eastbound 1999 Nissan Sentra driven by Brittany Strain, 17, of 27 Beaverwood Rd., and a westbound 2001 Saturn driven by Marvin Williams, 29, of 1407 Beech St., collided head on, according to an incident report from the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Both Strain and Williams sustained massive head trauma in the accident. Mississippi Highway Patrol Public Information Officer Sgt. Joe Gazzo said both died as a result of their injuries.

Gazzo would not comment whether alcohol was a factor in the accident but did say that anytime deaths occur in an accident blood is taken for testing. The incident is still under investigation and those blood results are pending.

A passenger in the vehicle with Strain, Sonnie Stewart, 17, no address given, was taken to Highland Community Hospital with moderate injuries.

A separate accident that took place Monday at about 6:46 a.m. took the life of a 55 year-old man whose identity has not been released because his next of kin have not been notified, Gazzo said.

For an unknown reason the 1996 Pontiac Grand Am the man was driving left the roadway, struck a culvert and went airborne colliding with a fence on the side of the road. The man died as a result of the accident, the report states.
