Some could argue there is no better support than a fine home cooked meal and the loyal dedication to a team to boost spirits before a big game.

Friday night, the Jackson State University football team ate a meal fit at Pleasant Valley Church for kings thanks to Larry Breland, his wife and their family and friends. The team made the stop into Picayune before heading on to Baton Rouge to play Southern University in a Saturday ball game.

Breland said their constant loyal support for the team gave him and his wife the idea to have the dinner.

“We wanted to help out by giving them a meal because their athletic budget is not all that big,” Breland said.

Family and friends from all over the community were gathered to help put on the dinner for the team, he said.

Lorenzo Breland, Larry’s son who plays for the team, said his parents have been behind him and the team the whole time.

“I’m glad we had the opportunity to come down,” Lorenzo Breland said.

Jackson State Head Coach Rick Comegy said he and his team were honored and pleased they were invited to dine on great food in Picayune.

“We didn’t know if they knew how to feed a football team, but we found out tonight,” Comegy said. “I see a lot of big bellies here.”

The full bellies and community love the team received in Picayune went with them to the game against Southern University.

“We’re just going to go down there and take care of business,” Lorenzo Breland said.
