A recent drug arrest in Hancock County included a Poplarville woman.

Maj. Matt Karl, narcotics division director with the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department, said Bunnie Ladner, 42, of Poplarville, and Malise Butler, 25, of Lakeshore in Hancock County, were arrested recently for trying to sell illegal drugs.

Karl said the pair contacted an undercover officer about noon on a Saturday. The officer located four uniformed Hancock officers — Karl, Lt. Matt Barnett, and deputies Eddie Smith and Clay Necaise — who set up a buy bust. The bust occurred at state Mississippi 603 and Interstate 10.

The “buy” involved crack cocaine, Karl said, and during a search of the vehicle the officers also found an unspecified amount of powder cocaine.

He said the pair were charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substances (crack cocaine and powder cocaine) and with intent to distribute crack cocaine.

Bond was set at $35,500 for each individual, he said.

According to information from the Hancock County jail, Ladner bonded out and Butler is being held in the Harrison County jail. Her bond was revoked because she was out on bond from a previous drug arrest, Karl said. A preliminary hearing has been set for Nov. 13 in Hancock County Justice Court, according to Hancock County jail records.
