A five year-old boy playing behind a car was run over by a panicking mother as she pulled out of her driveway.

The accident occurred Tuesday at about 4 p.m. as a young boy was playing in the King’s Bay Trailer Park in Nicholson.

The child happened to be playing behind a car of a mother who was in a hurry to find her missing children. The unidentified woman later found out her children missed their bus stop that afternoon and were brought back to the school as per school protocol, said Pearl River County Sheriff Deputy Rob Williams.

As the woman pulled out of her driveway in a hurry to find her children she failed to notice the boy, Justin Elliott, playing behind her car.

Mary Boyd, Elliott’s mother, took him to the hospital after the woman retrieved the boy from under the car and brought him home.

“His head was pouring blood,” said Crystal High, the boy’s maternal aunt.

Elliott saw the car moving and tried to get out of the way, but the car was moving too fast, Boyd said.

“She told me what made her stop, she heard a thump so she stopped and pulled him from under the car,” Boyd said.

Boyd said all the medical test results came back fine but he now has 18 stitches in his head.

“He’s just banged up and real sore,” Boyd said.

The driver of the car came by Boyd’s home recently to see how the boy was doing, Boyd said.

No charges were filed as a result of the accident, Williams said.
