Official Runoff numbers

The results for the primary election of 2007 that took place Tuesday now include affidavit, emergency and absentee ballots and are official.

Derek Turnage defeated Lisa Roche Sanders in Republican coroner runoff. Turnage received 4,672 votes to Sanders’ 4,480 votes.

Dan C. McNeill defeated Rodney Spears in the Democratic runoff for sheriff with McNeill receiving 926 votes to Spears’ 674 votes.

In the Republican runoff for sheriff, businessman David Allison defeated Picayune Police Chief Jim Luke. Allison received 5,207 votes to Luke’s 4,378 votes.

In the county supervisor runoffs, Districts II and IV had run off candidates in both parties while Districts V and III had only Republican Party runoffs.

For District II, in the Republican runoff Charles Culpepper defeated Daryl Smith. Culpepper received 1,262 votes to Smith’s 1,074 votes. On the Democratic side, Josey Tynes defeated Kevin Odom. Tynes received 186 votes to Odom’s 70 votes.

In District IV runoffs, Democratic Huey H. Smith defeated Woopie Kellar, and Republican Patrick Lee defeated incumbent Bobby Thigpen. Huey Smith received 174 votes to Kellar’s 134 votes. Lee received 1,092 votes to Thigpen’s 784 votes.

In District III, Hudson Holliday defeated incumbent Larry Davis. Holliday received 1,261 votes to Davis’ 835 votes.

In District V, Sandy Kane Smith defeated incumbent Bettye Stockstill. Sandy Smith received 1,362 votes to Stockstill’s 908 votes.

Also on the ballot, Mike Sumrall defeated Todd Brand in the Democratic runoff. Sumrall received 987 votes Brand received 535 votes. Sumrall faces Republican Candidate Stacey Pickering in the November general election.
