After a brief delay, Poplarville plans on unveiling its brand new on campus stadium this week.

The Hornets are set to christen their new surroundings against Long Beach Friday at 7:30 p.m. The game is the Division 8-4A opener for both teams.

“We had a meeting (Monday) in order to iron out all the details, and we’ll be ready,” Poplarville athletics director John Miller said. “There might be a few minor details still to work on Friday, but we’ll get everything done.”

Poplarville was expected to open the season in the new venue, but a few delays caused that game against West Jones to be played at Dobie Holden Stadium on the campus of Pearl River Community College. That is the stadium where the Hornets have played their home games since first forming a prep team over 50 years ago, but that will all change this week.

“It’s big for the school and everybody involved,” Miller added. “It’s really exciting.”
