Dossett celebrates 90 years

Mildred Dossett will celebrate her birthday on October 2. She has experienced so much since 1917, from starting school at the ripe old age of four, to graduating from Picayune High School in 1934 at 16. Then on to Ole Miss where she and her husband Horace Dossett went to school.

“I always had a knack for keeping books and working with numbers,” she said. She worked for Tung Broadcasting Company, now known as WRJW.

She helped organize the Career Woman’s Club of Picayune, which was instrumental in building the Brick-by-Brick monument honoring Pearl River County’s veterans. Lee Greenwood sang at the dedication and she has a cherished picture with him hugging her in 1990.

She has one son, Richard Dossett, three grandsons, one granddaughter, five great-grandsons, two great-granddaughters, and a new great-grandaughter due in February.

Dossett will be honored for her community contributions and her birthday on Sept. 29 at Paul’s Pastry Party Room from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. All family, friends and neighbors are cordially invited to attend.

Her birthday present from her family is a trip to an Ole Miss ball game close to where she honeymooned with her husband Horace Dossett.
