Board has public hearing on CDBG funding

The Pearl River County Board of Supervisors had a public hearing on the Community Development Block Grant funding that has been applied for at the board meeting Monday morning.
The question was raised by District I Supervisor Anthony Hales as to whether the funds could be used for community housing.
Jason Hicks, an engineer for Dungan Engineering who is helping with the grant application, said this particular grant is to be used to help complete funding for the new Chimney Square Building project in Picayune. Hicks said that although some CDBG grants used to be used for housing projects, the recent grants are strictly for repairing blights and slums, and that this particular grant is for property that was destroyed during Hurricane Katrina.
