Hope and kittens doing well in foster home

The little kitten family featured in Wednesday’s paper have found safety in a foster home here in Picayune. SPCA is extremely pleased to have several new foster homes to count on when pets pack the shelter to almost overflowing.

The SPCA operates the Animal Shelter under contract to the City and County and takes in between 4,000 and 5,000 animals per year.

Operating the Shelter has been bittersweet, Maria Diamond of SPCA says. The sad part is we have to euthanize many animals due to the volume we receive. It is very hard, but we understand that someone has to do it and who better than those who love them so much. If it has to be done, then it is much better to do it with gentleness and respect for each animal.

It is even better when pets are spayed and neutered, she says. The best part is being able to educate the public about how to care for their pets in the best possible way.

Diamond invites you to come visit the shelter. You may find a furry friend.
