Jackson County authorities have now charged a Vancleave man with capital murder in the slaying of his employer.
Sheriff Mike Byrd said charges were upgraded Thursday against Steven Lee Strange, 32, after investigators determined that robbery was the motive in the shooting death of Dennis Ray Galle of Latimer.
Galle, 47, died Tuesday after he was shot in the forehead at point-blank range, the sheriff said. The shooting occurred on the front porch of Galle’s home.
Byrd said there does not appear to have been a struggle between the men, though the two had recently argued.
Strange, 32, had worked for Galle repairing outboard motors at his boss’s home business, Byrd said.
Strange was being held in the county jail pending an initial court appearance.
