Police have arrested a 52-year-old man in connection with a Jackson cross burning.
Bill Sanders of Jackson was charged Wednesday with one count of arson, said Jackson Fire Chief Vernon Hughes.
It was unclear why Sanders, who is black, allegedly set fire to the cross.
“We’re not sure right now of his motive,” said Hughes. “The only thing we know right now is he was looking for some sort of attention.”
Hughes said investigators found a notebook at the scene of the west Jackson cross burning that contained racial slurs. The notebook led to Sanders, though the chief did not want to be specific.
