Four family members died in mobile home fire in Panola Co.
Two children were among four family members who died Friday when fire swept through their mobile home in Panola County, authorities said.
Firefighters responded to the about 5 a.m. blaze just outside the Batesville city limits. County Coroner Gracie Grant-Gullege said the four were found in a room at the back of the mobile home.
Killed were Stephanie Holman, 28, Christopher Owens, 28, Christian Owens, 23 months, and Dy’Darious Holman, 9 years old, authorities said.
Daniel Cole, deputy director of Panola County Emergency Management, said the cause of the fire was under investigation by the state fire marshal’s office.
Fires in Panola County have claimed eight lives this year, the most in any county.
“We’re in the process of researching what we can do to lower those numbers,” Cole said. “We can’t pinpoint anything right now.”
