An organizer of the Jubilee!JAM music festival said the event this past weekend was successful well beyond expectations.
Planners said Monday that 7,579 people attended Friday and 13,824 attended Saturday.
John Lawrence, president of the Jackson Arts and Music Foundation. Had half of those numbers attended, the event still would have been a success, he said.
“This event exceeded all of our expectations,” Lawrence said.
Rapper Ludacris and rock band the Black Crows were among the headliners this year.
The event made money, but Lawrence would not say how much until exact figures are available.
“We know we’re on the plus side and not the minus side,” Lawrence said.
For years, Jubilee!JAM was one of Mississippi’s largest music festivals, but it has been plagued by financial losses, Lawrence has said. It owed $204,000 after the 2005 shows. Partly as a result of Hurricane Katrina, Jubilee!JAM was canceled in 2006.
