Police believe those responsible for the shooting deaths last week of two Tougaloo College students may have stolen a vehicle belonging to one of the victims.
During the double homicide, a 1994 black XJ-30 Jaguar belonging to Antoine Reece was taken, Jackson Police Department spokesman Sgt. Jeffery Scott said Sunday.
Reece, 26, and his roommate, Justin Howard, 21, were killed inside their town house in Jackson. An acquaintance discovered the bodies Tuesday night, though police have said they believe the two were killed earlier that day.
Both men were shot in the head with a high-caliber handgun, Scott said. Reece, a member of the National Guard, was discovered at the doorway, and Howard, a Marine reservist who served in Iraq, was found in an upstairs bedroom.
While other items were taken from the home, Scott said he would not elaborate.
“Right now, all I can say is that we are investigating some very promising leads,” Scott said.
Scott would not say whether police have identified a suspect in the shootings.
The Jaguar originally had a Mississippi license plate with the number 049-005, but Scott said the person who took the vehicle may have switched the tags with a New York license plate.
