About 630 students evacuated Alexander East Hall, a male dormitory, after the fire was reported around 3:45 a.m. Officials believe the fire may have started in a trash can inside the dorm on the fifth floor.

Students were allowed back in the dorm about 7 a.m. but were kept off the fifth floor. Dean said there was no water damage to the building and no injuries were reported.
