Eagle Fly-In to honor Silver Beaver Bob Pope

Boy Scout Troop 81 hosted a surprise celebration of Bob Pope’s receiving the Silver Beaver Award for quality service. This award is made by the National Council Boy Scouts of America upon nomination of the local council. The big surprise was having an “Eagle Fly-In” where all of the Scouts, receiving the rank of Eagle under Bob’s direction and their leaders, would return. A few live as far away as Beaumont, TX and Nashville, TN. Eleven of the eighteen Eagles attended the celebration. Assistant Scoutmasters Johnny Fox, Crawford Wallace, and Lad McCormick were all on hand to welcome the Eagles on their return. There were lots of hugs and handshakes and much catching-up of the last 28 years. The evening was enjoyed by relatives, friends, and Troop 81 with food, fellowship, and listening to some stories of “remember when”.

Of the eighteen Scouts making Eagle between 1976 and 1990, eleven returned. Those are pictured at right with Scoutmaster, Bob Pope, Sr.
